About Us

What is the Finniss Catchment Group?

The Finniss Catchment Group is a well-established community organisation with a diverse membership working to restore the health of the Finniss River catchment, which covers a significant area of the Eastern Mt Lofty Ranges in South Australia and forms part of the Murray-Darling Basin. We seek to promote equitable and efficient water use with economically, socially and environmentally sustainable land use. We monitor water quality and river flows and organise activities to rehabilitate degraded land and protect biodiversity. We are committed to education and work co-operatively with individuals, organisations and government for the benefit of both the environment, local landholders and the broader Australian community.

What do we do?

We are very busy so are always interested in meeting new people who would like to become involved in any of our activities. These include:
  • propagating and caring for native plants
  • weeding along the riparian zones of the Finniss River
  • monitoring water flows and water quality
  • participating in educational activities
  • fund-raising and social activities
  • political activism for the benefit of the catchment
We have some great cooks amongst us and all activities are accompanied by excellent food and a few laughs along the way.
