The Finniss Catchment Group has been
operating a community nursery for the past 3 years. Initially we worked
from the Nursery in Clayton in 2009
until a suitable site was found at
Finniss where work began in October 2010.
The nursery site has been developed
in a disused cow shed solely by FCG volunteers with a Development Grant from the
Lakes Community Nursery Network.
The FCG nursery has propagated:
2009/2010
|
10,000 plants
|
10 species
|
2010/2011
|
12,000 plants
|
20 species
|
2011/2012
|
11,000 plants
|
over 30 local species
|
These plants are grown under
contract to the Goolwa to Wellington LAP Revegetation Project and used in the
lower Finniss River riparian zone.
Additional plants are grown for local projects and the Catchment Groups
weeding work on the River.
Currently, volunteers meet on Tuesdays from 9-12pm and
Wednesdays from 2-5pm with some Saturday mornings by arrangement when the
nursery is busy. If you have some time to spare and would like to spend some
time with us to improve the local environment we’d love to see you.
